The Navy High Command and the Khanh Hoa provincial Party Committee reviewed the five-year joint program on sea and island communication in Nha Trang City on March 15. In addition to having over 200 kilometers of coastline and hundreds of islands, Khanh Hoa province is home of Vietnam Naval Academy, Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography, Cam Ranh military port, and Truong Sa island district is an administrative unit directly under the province. Therefore, sea and island communication has been strengthened, creating evident changes in awareness and action of people about the importance of the economic development of the sea and islands and ensure national defence and security.
Over the past five years, the Navy High Command and Khanh Hoa provincial Party Committee have combined to well conduct verbal communication and mass media for hundreds of thousands of officers and soldiers and people about Vietnam's marine strategy to 2020, the international maritime law and the legal system about Vietnam's sea and islands, the legal foundation asserting the sovereignty of Vietnam over the islands on the East Sea, including Hoang Sa and Truong Sa islands.
Besides, the two sides also jointly organized various activities, such as naval units being twinned with localities, organizing to visit staff, soldiers and people in Truong Sa island.
Thanks the communication, fishermen in Khanh Hoa province have established two teams who take lengthy voyages catching fish in Truong Sa territorial waters, or building a team of 100 ships, which catch fish, along with developing the economy and protecting the country’s sea and island sovereignty.
At the meeting, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Viet Thuan, vice chairman of the Truong Sa district People's Committee, said that the communication had mobilized the power of the all political system, all levels, sectors and the people toward to Truong Sa Islands with the spirit of "All for beloved Truong Sa", which had made a large contribution to improving the material and spiritual life for staff, soldiers and people in the island.
