Ca Mau Provincial People’s Committee has submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister to build a deep-water port on Hon Khoai Island for over 100,000-ton ships to load and unload cargo, at a cost of US$1.8billion from an Australian investor.
Under the project, Hon Khoai Port will have 12 quays, and, once completed, Hon Khoai is targeted to become the gateway to economic zone in southern HCM City and one of two leading ports in Vietnam for industrial centres in the region.
In the coming time, this project aims to import coal via a coal port and wharfs for local thermoelectric plants. In the future, the investor will build a pier to bridge the port with the mainland.
