A seminar on female candidates for NA deputies and gender equality for southern provinces was held in the southern province of Vinh Long by the NA Committee on Social Issues on March 13 and 14.
The seminar drew the participation of 70 representatives from southern provinces who are female candidates for NA deputies.
According to the organizing board of the seminar, Vietnam is one of countries with a relatively high rate of female NA and People’s Council deputies, accounting for about 25%. Intelligent and confident female candidates affirm the role of people who will be representing the will and the expectations of voters.
The seminar aimed to provide female candidates for NA deputies with necessary skills in building action plans to meet voters, and directing the strategic objective of increasing the rate of female NA and People’s Council deputies in the 2011-2016 period to 30% or more.
Participants at the seminar listened to NA deputies and experts to share experiences and knowledge about the function and tasks of a NA deputy, laws on gender equality and the role of female NA deputies, basic information about national socio-economics, the skills of public speaking and building an image on mass media, and relations with the press.
