President attends Special Task Police Battalion's 20th founding anniversary

President Tran Dai Quangattended the 20th founding anniversary of Special Task Police Battalion No 1, an elite armed unit of the Ministry of Public Security’s Mobile Police High Command (1997-2017) in Ha Noi.

The battalion, the first special task police unit of the Ministry of Public Security, has closely coordinated with other specialised forces, the army and relevant agencies to ensure the absolute safety for important political, economic, cultural and social events

The President asked the mobile and special task police to continue close coordination with relevant sides to defeat crimes and hostile forces, stressing that they should reinforce relations with the special task force of other countries in training and information and experience sharing, thereby improving their combat capacity.

National Women’s Congress concludes, picks seven new goals

The 12th National Women’s Congress concluded in Ha Noi after three working days, with seven targets for 2017-2022 approved.

At the first meeting of the VWU Central Committee, the members re-elected Nguyen Thi Thu Ha as President of the union for 2017-2022, along with four vice presidents.

On the occasion, President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan presented the Independence Order second class to former President of the VWU Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa in recognition of Hoa’ssignificant contributions to women’s movements.

PM approves adjusting master construction plan for Nghi Son EZ

The PM has approved the task of adjusting and expanding the master construction plan for Thanh Hoa province’s Nghi Son Economic Zone (EZ) until 2035, with a vision to 2050.

Accordingly, the research scope of the Nghi Son EZ covers the entire area of the current Nghi Son EZ; the remaining area of Tinh Gia district; and a total area of 106,000 hectares in Nong Cong district’s Yen My, Cong Binh and Cong Chinh communes and Nhu Thanh district’s Thanh Tan, Thanh Ky and Yen Lac communes.

Adjustment and expansion work aims to construct the Nghi Son EZ in line with the national development strategy as a whole and the Viet Nam sea strategy in particular, and build it into an area of dynamic, innovative, rapid and sustainable economic development, and an investment attraction and cargo transit center.

Deputy PM chairs national conference on anti-smuggling work

Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh chaired a national videoconference held in Ha Noi to review the performance of the National Steering Committee on Combating Smuggling, Trade Fraud and Counterfeit Goods (Steering Committee 389) in 2016 as well as launch its tasks for 2017.

According to the deputy PM, who heads the steering committee, positive results have been recorded in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and fake commodities, receiving appreciation from both people and businesses and contributing to increasing budget revenues, protecting the business climate and consumers’ rights, and promoting socio-economic development.

He urged delegates to uphold the sense of responsibility and frankly point out the achievements, specify shortcomings and discuss advantages and challenges in anti-smuggling work, as well as put forward effective measures for 2017 and the time ahead.

Integration generates practical benefits: Deputy PM

Integration has brought about practical benefits for businesses and people while promoting the adaptation of domestic regulations to international standards, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh has said.

He made the remark at a plenary session of the National Steering Committee on International Integration in Ha Noi.

He asked for better measures to facilitate the public’s access to integration information. Meanwhile, the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry also needs to be more active to help enterprises make use of FTAs.

Congratulation to re-elected WTO Director-General

Viet Nam congratulates Roberto Azevedo on his re-election as Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) for 2017-2021, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh on March 9.

Binh said the re-election demonstrates WTO members’ recognition of Roberto Azevedo’s positive contributions to the multilateral trading system during the last term.

Viet Nam believes that in the next tenure, Roberto Azevedo will continue to promote the system and the role of the WTO while paying heed to ensuring the interests of and increasing technical assistance to developing members of the organisation, including Viet Nam, the official added.

Coffee festival attracts big crowd to Dak Lak

The Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival was held on March 9 in the province of Dak Lak, featuring local farmers, chefs, roasters, manufacturers and retailers.

The event proved to be a big hit for the thousands who turned out to taste chocolate and coffee samples from over 234 different vendors, including many of the top brands from around the globe.

Miss ASEAN friendship 2017 contest to be held in Phu Yen

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued the certificate to Gala Viet Event Tour Corporation allowing it to host the Miss ASEAN Friendship 2017 in the coastal province of Phu Yen Province.

The pageant is expected to take place between March 1 and July 2, 2017. The final round is held from June 1 to July 2, and the coronation night is hosted in Tuy Hoa City on July 7.

The pageant is aimed at celebrating 50 years of establishment and development of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Belgian experts help HCM City to create special beef stock

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ho Chi Minh City has carried out aprogramme to improve its beef products by 2020, with a vision to 2030.

The programme aims to develop high productivity beef stock, improve the quality of beef and provide breeds for other southern provinces.
