VN willing to help Brunei ensure food security: Prime Minister

Viet Nam is ready to provide rice for Brunei in a long-term and stable manner to help the latter ensure food security, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc told a Brunei official.

He made the remark on February 27 while receiving Brunei’s Second Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Lim Jock Seng, who is in Ha Noi to attend the first meeting of the countries’ committee for bilateral cooperation.

Highlighting the sound development of the bilateral friendship and cooperation, the Government leader said Viet Nam looks forward to an official visit by the Sultan of Brunei on the occasion of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting slated for November. He described the trip as a milestone in the 25th founding anniversary of the two nations’ diplomatic relationship this year.

Tuyen Quang seeks investment in trade and tourism

The northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang convened on February 27 a conference on investment, trade and tourism promotion in an effort to attract investment in its tourism sector .

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the event and witnessed the signing ceremony of six projects worth over VND 18.6 trillion on paper production, furniture processing, hydro-electricity, and sports.

PM Phuc said that he had a meeting with Tuyen Quang local leaders and gave opinions on ten proposals, especially the building of a 40-km highway connecting Phu Tho and Tuyen Quang provinces and another road to Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway.

DPM greets French guest

Permanent Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh hosted a reception on February 27 for French Deputy Minister for Government Reform and Simplification Jean-Vincent Placé who was on a working visit to Viet Nam.

The host leader praised the strategic relations between Viet Nam and France, especially economic cooperation which has become a pillar in the bilateral ties.

So far, France was the fifth largest trade partner of Viet Nam in the EU and one of the leading ODA providers for the country. France was also the third European investor in Viet Nam after pouring nearly US$ 4 billion into the country.

VN-U.S. double taxation avoidance pact ratified

The Government has issued a resolution to ratify an agreement and a protocol on double taxation avoidance between Viet Nam and the U.S.

The Government has tasked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to accomplish necessary procedures.

The Ministry of Finance is responsible for working with relevant ministries and agencies to implement related documents.

Brunei Sultan to attend 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week

Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Lim Jock Seng affirmed that Brunei advocates Viet Nam to successfully host the APEC Year during a meeting with Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh in Ha Noi on February 27.

He also revealed that the Sultan of Brunei will attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, scheduled in November 2017 in the central city of Da Nang.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed to strengthen experience exchanges, trade promotion, and cooperation in oil and gas exploitation as part of efforts to raise the two-way trade value to US$500 million by 2025 as planned.

VN-Brunei joint commission’s meeting hailed

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai lauded the outcomes of the first meeting of the Viet Nam-Brunei Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation during a meeting in Ha Noi on February 27 with Brunei Minister at Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Lim Jock Seng.

Lim is in Viet Nam to co-chair the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh which was held the same day on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

Reviewing bilateral economic and trade ties over the past years, they said two-way trade hit US$ 97.7 million last year, up 32.6 year-on-year, and discussed the possibility of enhancing links in trade and oil and gas, among others.

Quang Ninh accelerates building new-style rural areas

The northern province of Quang Ninh aims to have additional 11 communes meeting all new-style rural area criteria in 2017.

The targeted areas are Quang Yen town, Hoanh Bo, Van Don, Tien Yen, Hai Ha, Dam Ha districts, and Mong Cai city.

Cam Pha and Uong Bi cities are also looking for the new-style rural area status in the year.

In order to enhance the efficiency of new-style rural area construction, the province will implement the program in tandem with its agricultural restructuring planning.

HN pilots software to manage public car parks

The Ha Noi People’s Committee has approved a pilot program that will utilize software and automation technology to manage public parking zones in the city.

The plan, developed and implemented by the Ha Noi Car Park Exploitation Company, includes the digital mapping of car parking areas in the city, the use of management software, and the installation of cameras to record vehicle registration plates at car parking areas, the Committee said recently.

All information relating to car parks will be available online, and car owners will be able to find and book parking spaces in advance on devices such as smart phones and tablets.

Lithuania looks to strengthen trade links with VN

Lithuania's Ambassador Ina Marciulionyte told a business forum in Ha Noi on February 27 that the country’s private sector is excited about strengthening trade links with their Vietnamese counterparts.

Lithuania, one of the EU Member States, looks favorably upon the prospects for enhanced trade and investment once the EU-Viet Nam free trade agreement come into force in 2018, he said./.
