President Truong Tan Sang met with Sergey Kirienko, General Director of State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” of Russia, on Mar. 30 in Hanoi.
At the reception, the General Director expressed his delight to visit Vietnam , affirming that Russian President Medvedev usually pays attention to cooperative projects between the two governments.
Sergey Kirienko assured that Russia will work with Vietnam to promote the implementation of the first nuclear power plant in the central province of Ninh Thuan , suggesting that Vietnam and Russia should cooperate to develop other nuclear power projects in Vietnam and other countries.
He also said Rosatom will create favourable conditions to attract more Vietnamese personnel to participate in the project.
President Truong Tan Sang expressed his hope that the country will be able to train its experts on nuclear power with Russian support.
Sang said that Vietnam is on its way to implementing its socio-economic development strategy under the Resolution of the eleventh Party Congress, with the aim of developing key industries.
It is necessary to ensure the construction quality of the first nuclear power in Vietnam in the context of the increasing demand for power, he said.
The President also expressed a wish that the nuclear power plant project will be completed successfully and put into operation, under the positive cooperation and traditional friendship between Vietnam and Russia
