>> Dancing with the Stars’ finalists announced
At the final night of the dancing show in Hanoi on June 17, Minh Hang, who was involved in a scandal featuring lip-syncing and fake vocals on the show’s debut night on March 18, gained the Golden Cup and the Audience’s Favorite prize with the highest number of votes via nearly 140.000 messages.
Male model Truong Nam Thanh won the Silver Cup and the King of Standard award while the remaining finalist, former female model Anh Thu, received the Bronze Cup and Queen of Latin prize.
Besides these top three awards, the contest also gave other titles to contestants. The Most Compatible Couple prize was given to actor Huynh Dong and his partner, while actress Van Trang and her partner won the Natural Passion award.
However, the show, which was broadcast live last night, dismayed many viewers due to several gaffes by singer Nguyen Vu, emcee of the show. The most awkward moment was when he mistakenly gave Anh Thu’s Queen of Latin award for singer Phuong Thanh, who was supposed to get the Most Impressive Dancer prize.
Kicked off in March in the capital city, the show had seen competition between five local female beauties including model Anh Thu; Miss Vietnam 2010’s runner-up Hoang My; actress Van Trang; and singers Minh Hang and Phuong Thanh. The five male contestants were actors Huynh Dong and Quach Ngoc Ngoan, model Truong Nam Thanh, emcee Tuan Tu, and singer Minh Quan.
The 10 celebrities were paired with 10 professional dancers from Europe.
For the third season, the show was modeled after the American version, instead of the British one, as in years past. There were more dance genres from musical to Broadway, in addition to the classics like rumba, chachacha, samba and waltz.
In the first two seasons, actress Ngo Thanh Van and female singer Thu Minh were the champions.
