Photos featuring Vietnam today presented

Nhan Dan – Winners of the ‘Vietnam Today’ photography contest were presented with their awards at a ceremony in Hanoi on April 8.

The first prize in the photograph collection category went to ‘Ngo Bao Chau – Niem Tu Hao Viet Nam’ (Ngo Bao Chau – The Pride of Vietnam) by Nguyen A – Hoai Linh from Ho Chi Minh City, which captures the moment Professor Ngo Bao Chau was awarded the prestigious Fields Medal in 2010.

Nguyen Van Xuan from Quang Ngai province won first prize in the single photograph category for his work entitled ‘Nha May Loc Dau Dung Quat’ (Dung Quat Oil Refinery).

Two second, two third and ten consolation prizes were also presented at the ceremony.

An exhibition of the best pictures in the contest opened at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi on the same day and will last until April 10.

The contest, the third of its kind, is held biennially by the ‘The Gioi Anh’ (Photo World) magazine under the sponsorship of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists. Launched in June, 2010, this year’s contest received nearly 6,000 entries by over 450 photographers across the country.

Under the theme ‘Dynamic and Friendly Vietnam’, the entries depicted the beauty of Vietnam and its people, as well as the country’s achievements during the renewal and global integration process in many fields including politics, economics, culture and society. The good sentiments of international friends towards Vietnam are also featured in the photographs.
