(VOV) - Seven artists from the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet Theatre (VNOB) and the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO) are performing in the US at the invitation of the School of Music under the Brigham Young University.
They include Nghiem Manh Tuan, Bui Anh Dung and Phan Nam from the VNSO, and Tran Xuan Hoa from the VNOB. They are all members of Hanoi’s Go Group Band which is famous for percussion.
Singer Huyen Nga and trumpeter Minh Qui have been invited to take part in the tour. Singer Huyen Nga is scheduled to sing two traditional Vietnamese folk songs.
Vietnamese artists will give performances in three cities of the States of Utah and Idaho, starting on November 2, according to Pham Hong Hai, head of the artists group.
They will bring to the American audiences Vietnamese and overseas pieces specially arranged for percussion. The Vietnamese works are Rhsody Vietnam by composer Do Hong Quan, Pizzicato Vietnam by composer Dang Huu Phuoc, Bai ca chim ung (Hawk song) by composer Dam Linh and Hoa Quynh (a variety of flower that blossoms at night with gentle fragrance)by composer Nguyen Van Tuan.
Among foreign works is famous Musique de Table by Thierry De Mey, for which the artists will only use their hands and a table to create sound. It took the artists nearly a year to practice this piece.
Nghiem Manh Tuan, Bui Anh Dung and Phan Nam recently performed in New York and Boston in the US together with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra.
