‘Pearls of the East Sea ’ spins seven short narratives about various permutations and configurations of love. Seven stories about Vietnamese women spanning different generations, exploring their inner lives and forbidden loves.
The stories unfold like chapters from a novel, and they recall familiar existential stages of life - childhood, youth, maturity, and old age, as time and seasons run in the background. And what a background it proves to be, with the natural beauty of Vietnam shown in a way that has not been matched even in most travelogues.
‘Pearls of the East Sea ’ was shot over just 37 days at well-known landscapes nationwide, such as Sapa, Da Lat, Phan Thiet, Mui Ne and Hoi An. The rest of the film was shot in Canada .
The film had the participation of many famous actresses, such as people’s artist Nhu Quynh, Diem My, Hong Anh, Truong Ngoc Anh, and Ngo Thanh Van.
The film will be screened for Vietnamese audiences in March 2012 and also has been selected to screen at the 7th Annual Women’s Film & Art Festival in Miami , Florida , from March 25 to April 1, 2012.
