Party leader Trong warmly welcomed the Cuban President’s four-day visit to Vietnam, considering it as a continuation of the two countries’ joint efforts to foster the bilateral ties.
The Vietnamese leader briefed the guest about Vietnam’s major achievements, particularly in the past 25 years of renewal process while Cuban President Raul Castro informed the host about recent developments in Cuba.
Praising Cuba’s initial positive results in “updating” its economic model approved at the 6 th National Party Congress of Cuba in April 2011, Party leader Trong expressed his belief that Cuban people would overcome challenges and difficulties to gain greater achievements in socio-economic development and national protection.
Cuban President Raul Castro spoke highly of Vietnam’s renewal cause, saying it is the great encouragement for Cuban people to renovate its economic model.
In a friendly atmosphere, the two leaders exchanged views on a wide range of issues concerning the bilateral ties and discussed on specific measures to deepen the comprehensive cooperation betwen the two countries.
Both sides agreed to boost high-ranking visits and experience exchange, improve the efficiency of economic-trade-investment cooperation, and enhance mutual support at international forums.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern, particularly the current global economic downturn and the situation in Asia-Pacific and Latin America.
On the same day, the Cuban leader also met with Vietnamese State President Truong Tan Sang and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung./.
