Party General Secretary and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong had a busy day with a wide range of activities in Laos on June 21.

After laying a wreath at the Monument for Heroes and Martyrs in Vientiane , the Vietnamese leader attended and delivered a speech at the first session of the 7 th National Assembly of Laos.
In his speech, Trong expressed his belief that under the sound leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP), the management of the Government, the supervision of the NA and the creative labour spirit of the people, the Resolution of the 9 th National LPRP Congress and the seventh five-year socio-economic development plan of Laos will be successful.
“The position of Laos in the region and the world as well will be continuously improved and the Lao people will soon fulfil their goal of building Laos into a strong nation with rich people and a united, harmonious, democratic, just and civilised society, continuing to advance to socialism,” he said.
The Vietnamese leader affirmed that the Vietnamese Party, State and people commit themselves to doing their utmost, together with the Lao counterparts, to ceaselessly consolidate and develop the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries to be passed on to next generations, considering it a strategic principle, a rule of development and a factor that ensures the success of the national construction and defence cause in each nation.
Speaking at the session, Lao NA President Pany Yathotou said that the visit, which takes place in the context of the two countries’ successful organisation of the National Party Congresses and NA elections for the new tenure as well as complex developments in the regional and world situations, is not only a great encouragement for the Lao people but also helps bring the Laos-Vietnam traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation to a new level of development for the cause of national construction and development in each country.
As close friends, the Lao people always follow the situation in Vietnam and are pleased to find that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people have recorded important achievements in their national construction and development, she said, adding that all successes in the revolutionary cause of the Lao people are closely connected with the great and effective assistance of the Vietnamese people.
While expressing thanks for the Vietnamese Party, State and people for their support for the Lao NA in improving its capacity, President Pany Yathotou affirmed that the two sides always closely coordinate at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums.
On the same day, Party General Secretary and NA Chairman Trong and his wife visited the families of Laos ’ senior leaders, including former Party and State President Khamtay Siphandon, late President Kaysone Phomvihane and late President Nouhak Phoumsavan.
They also offered flowers and incense, and recorded entries on the guestbook at the late President Souphanouvong Memorial House in Vientiane.
