PM meets with Philippine President on ASEAN Summit sidelines

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Philippines’ President Rodrigo Roa Duterte agreed to soon convene a meeting of the two countries’ Joint Committee to beef up bilateral cooperative ties.

The two leaders reached the agreement in Manila on April 29 on the sidelines of the 30 th ASEAN Summit.

Both sides expressed their pleasure at the fine progress of the Viet Nam-Philippines strategic partnership over the past time and agreed to increase all-level delegation exchange.

President Duterte said he attaches great importance to the friendship with Viet Nam and welcomes State President Tran Dai Quang to pay an official visit to the Philippines in 2017.

The Philippine President said he pledged to spare no effort to push the completion of the Code of Conduct in the East Sea with practical and feasible contents in accordance with international law.

The Vietnamese PM took the occasion to invite President Duterte to join the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Viet Nam this year as Chair of ASEAN.

Phuc expressed his hope that the Philippines will support Viet Nam’s initiatives proposed for the APEC Year 2017 and thanked President Duterte for releasing 17 Vietnamese fishermen in November 2016./.
