PM gives nod to the merger of three aviation firms

Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the plan to merge three airport corporations of the Northern, Central and Southern firms into Vietnam Aviation Corporation.

The Ministry of Transport will be responsible for the merger under the current regulations. This is one of the recent directives of the PM on plans to arrange and renovate businesses with 100 percent state capital under the ministry.

In addition, the PM also approved the privatisation of 59 businesses, including 13 businesses under the Ministry of Transport, 21 businesses under the General Department of Vietnam Roads, three businesses under the Northern Aviation Corporation and the Danang Aviation Tourism and Trade Company and two businesses under the Southern Aviation Corporation.

The PM also agreed to retain 100 percent of state capital for 22 businesses, including Phu Bai Aviation Ltd. Co. Moreover, the bankruptcy of the Transportation Construction Company 506 and the Trade and Transport Investment Company under the Vietnam Automobile Industry Corporation will be dealt with.

The PM tasked the Ministry of Transport with finding a plan for the rearrangement of businesses in the field of managing and maintaining roads. He also asked the Vietnam Railway Corporation to set a plan to arrange railway management companies to submit to him for consideration in 2012.
