The Government chief said that over the last 67 years, the healthcare sector has grown in all aspects of network, number of doctors, as well as medical staff and services.
The number of doctors and nurses increased to 200,000 from just 300 in 1954 and 13,500 healthcare facilities have been set up so far. People’s health indexes have been much improved and are better than those of many other middle-income countries.
Regarding future tasks, PM Dũng asked the sector to renew operational and financial mechanisms to develop public medical establishments; and apply health insurance to the whole nation.
The sector also need to raise people’s awareness of rising healthcare service prices in order to raise funds for improving healthcare quality and reducing hospital overload.
Training models should also be expanded to secure human resources for medical establishments in the time to come, PM Dũng said.
