Fostering sub-regional cooperation
The Vietnamese PM’s presence at sub-regional summits in Cambodia will help reinforce the multifaceted cooperation with neighbor countries in the Mekong Sub-region, especially Laos and Cambodia.
In recent years, cooperation among sub-regional countries has been accelerated. Many new cooperative mechanisms, such as those among Cambodia, Laos and Việt Nam (CLV), Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Việt Nam (CLMV), and the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), were formed and have churned out positive results.
The 3rd ACMECS Summit in November 2008 in Hà Nội established an environment working group and the 4th CMLV Summit in the same month fixed the list of priority projects. And the 5th CLV Summit in November 2008 in Vientiane, Laos, adopted the memorandum of understanding on preferential policies for the Development Triangle.
