(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Myanmar’s visiting Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services General Min Aung Hlaing in Hanoi on November 14.

PM Dung praised the outcome of talks and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on national defence cooperation between Mr Hlaing and Minster of National Defence Phung Quang Thanh.

Mr Dung said he is happy to see the Vietnam- Myanmar relationship developing well in a number of fields and congratulated Myanmar on its successful general election and establishment of a new Government.

Vietnam always attaches great importance to boosting cooperation with Myanmar in various fields for mutual benefit and prosperity as well as the common development of ASEAN, said Mr Dung

The Vietnamese Government leader also asked Mr Hlaing to support Vietnamese Army telecommunications, banking and agricultural businesses operating in Myanmar.

On the occasion, PM Dung also conveyed his best regards to Myanmar President U Thein Sein.

Mr Hlaing said his visit aims to promote relations between the two ministries of national defence and the peoples of both countries.

This is the first visit to Vietnam by a senior Myanmar delegation since Myanmar established a new Government in March 2011.

Myanmar will do its best to accelerate the implementation of the MoU it signed with the Vietnam Ministry of National Defence, and continue to cooperate with Vietnam in all fields, especially in learning from its experiences in socio-economic development during the Doi Moi (Renewal) process, Mr Hlaing said.

The Myanmar Commander-in-Chief also thanked the Vietnamese Government for supporting his country in ASEAN and at international multilateral forums.
