Overseas Vietnamese in Cambodia receive help

The Dong Thap provincial Fatherland Front has brought 15 tonnes of rice and VND 30 million to Kompong Prasat commune, Peam Chhol province, Pray Veng province of Cambodia to help overseas Vietnamese who are suffering the consequences of recent floods.

Pray Veng is one of the provinces that was seriously flooded in Cambodia with over 100,000 hectares of agricultural land left damaged. 180,000 families were affected with water being between 3-5 metres., 55 people were killed due to the floods.

Two thirds of over 3,000 overseas Vietnamese in the province were affected by floods. Many of them lost houses and lack food and necessaries is causing difficulties

Earlier, Mr. Le Minh Hoan, Chairman of the Dong Thap provincial People’s Committee visited and assisted Pray Veng province with VND 250 million (roughly 20 tonnes of rice).

After the water subsides, Dong Thap province will continue to support Pray Veng province in building a primary school to teach the Vietnamese and Khmer languages for overseas Vietnamese living in the province.

Last weekend, the Vietnamese Government also assisted the Cambodian Government with USD 100,000 to support Cambodian people.
