At the launch, Vinamilk pledged to plant o­ne million trees in urban areas across the country by 2015. In the first year of implementation, around 100,000 new trees are expected to be planted in the urban areas of Hanoi , Hai Phong, Da Nang , and Ho Chi Minh City .

Planting trees to improve environmental air quality, especially in major cities is an urgent issue, said Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Bui Cach Tuyen.

The Vietnamese Government encourages corporations to be involved in environmental protection, and views the fund is an important and very practical measure to protect people’s environment.

Vinamilk has committed VND3 billion (US$144,000) to the Fund this year from the sale of its Vfresh soft drink products.

The company will also provide VND300 million (US$14,400) to present awards to individuals and organisations who display innovative ideas for the most effective method to plant trees within the scope of the project.
