PANO – One worker was seriously injured as a bomb exploded in Nghi Yen Commune, Nghi Loc District, Nghe An Province when workers of Truong Son Road and Bridge Construction Company were drilling.

The drilling was for the construction of the new Cam Bridge on the National Highway 1 and the explosion cracked the road.

The explosion, at the depth of 4 metres when the drill-bit touched the bomb, also made some others slightly injured but only one seriously injured worker had to be transferred to hospital for emergency treatment.

Colonel Tran Sy Phang, Head of Nghi Loc District Police, said that relevant agencies arrived at the site in good time to ensure the security and traffic through the area.

It is said that the U.S. forces used more than 15 million tons of bombs, mines, artillery shells and other ordnance in the Vietnam War, of which 10 percent did not detonate as designed.
