Norwegian Wood is a 2010 Japanese film directed by Vietnamese French director, Tran Anh Hung, based on the popular 1960’s novel of the same name by Haruki Murakami.

The story follows narrator Toru Watanabe (Kenichi Matsuyama) as he looks back at his days as a freshman university student living in Tokyo. His favorite song is Norwegian Wood (The bird has flown) by the Beatles.

Before he leaves highschool Watanabe loses his only friend Kizuki to suicide. Watanabe, now looking for a new life, enters a university in Tokyo and meets Kizuki’s ex-girlfriend Naoko (Rinko Kikuchi) by chance. They grow close because they share the same loss.

Then the relationship becomes more complicated when Watanabe meets another woman, Midori (Kiko Mizuhara).

The film was nominated for the Golden Lion at the 67th Venice International Film Festival.

It is being screened in Vietnam at Galaxy, Megastar, Cinebox cinemas around the country.
