(VOV) - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on May 24 asked 14 northern cities and provinces to work harder to prevent blue-ear pig disease.
Blue-ear pig disease hits eight localities The localities are Hanoi, Haiphong, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hoa Binh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh.
So far, five provinces, namely Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh and Hoa Binh, have been infected with the disease.
Experts have warned that there is a high risk of the epidemic spreading to other provinces in the Red River Delta and neighbouring areas.
The MARD requested that the People’s Committees in 14 cities and provinces raise public awareness of the disease, detect any pigs with unusual symptoms and report to relevant agencies for immediate treatment.
The ministry also demanded that local authorities establish quarantine stations and assign delegations to check pig rearing households.
