Nokia has planned to start the operation of its mobile device production facility in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) in the Northern Province of Bac Ninh, according to the company’s sources.
Ms. Phan Cam Ly, Manager for Nokia Communications in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and the Philippines said that Nokia started to build the plant, which is expected to cost some US$300million, as soon as it had gained the investment license.
She also said that Nokia will hold a press conference to officially announce the operation of the plant on April 23 rd .
Earlier in March 2010, Nokia had said that the plant would be operational in 2012 and at first it would operate with 80 per cent of the designed capacity of about nearly 50 million products per year.
All the above information elicits that the first mobile phones of Nokia made in Vietnam may be introduced to the market this year.
At this point, another mobile device production facility of Samsung is operational in VSIP and with the upcoming operation of the Nokia plant, Bac Ninh will be a mobile phone production hub in the country and region.
