(VOV) - Nokia on April 23 began construction of a factory for manufacturing cell phones in the northern province of Bac Ninh.
Nokia to set up mobile phone plant in Vietnam
The facility reaffirms Nokia’s long-term commitment to Vietnam as well as its strategy to connect another billion people to information and the Internet.
The factory is built on 17 hectares in the Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) In Bac Ninh province and is scheduled to be put into operation in early 2013.
"We highly appreciate Nokia's efforts to fulfill its commitment, contributing to the growth of foreign investment in Vietnam, particularly in Bac Ninh,” said Nguyen Nhan Chien, Chairman of the Bac Ninh provincial People's Committee.
He expressed his hope that in addition to economic values, the project will help generate jobs and enhance community knowledge of information technology.
Nokia entered Vietnam in 1996 and, like many multinational enterprises, sees the country as a growing market with great opportunities and potential.
Nokia currently operates two representative offices in Vietnam, one in Ho Chi Minh City and the other in Hanoi.
