Nguyen Hoang Thien tops national junior tennis champs

CPV: Vietnamese tennis star Nguyen Hoang Thien won the National U18 Tennis Championships after defeating Pham Minh Tuan 2-0 (6-2, 6-1) in the final round on August 7.

In this match, Pham Minh Tuan has failed to put any pressures on his experienced and advanced rival.

Earlier, No1 seed Ho Huynh Dan Mach, 14, was trounced by Hoang Thien in the semi-finals even Hoang Thien just recovered from his right shoulder pain.

By winning this title, Nguyen Hoang Thien is really a good hope for Vietnamese team at the upcoming 26th Southeast Asian Games to be held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia in November this year. Young Vietnamese tennis star pocketed a 4.5 million VND in prize money.

Thien was born in 1995. He started practicing tennis at the age of 8. His first “coaches” were ball gatherers on his father’s tennis court. Two years later, he won the championship of the National U-10 Tennis Tournament 2005.

Thien’s talent was revealed at the Vietnam-Thailand Tennis Tournament at the Phu Tho Club in HCM City in 2007. He has impressed others with his professional style of playing, even when playing against rivals who are 4-5 years old and have higher rankings. His biggest wish is to enter the top 100 of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) before the age of 20./.
