President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung have received more congratulatory messages from foreign leaders on their elections at the ongoing 13th NA.

HA NOI —

Sang received congratulations from Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a message of congratulations to Dung, his counterpart from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Choe Yong Rim said he firmly believed that the inherent traditional friendship and co-operation between the DPRK and Viet Nam would continue to expand and develop in the fields of politics, economics and culture.

PM Dung also received congratulations from his Singaporean and Spanish counterparts, Lee Hsien Loong and Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

Singaporean Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Tarmugi and Chairman of the Belarusian House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko extended greetings to NA Chairman Hung.

HA NOI — The Vietnamese people, Party and State highly valued co-operation with Laos on national defence and development, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan said at a reception for Lao Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Bosengkham Vongdara, in Ha Noi yesterday.

Nhan spoke highly of the close co-operation in culture, information and tourism.

The Vietnam News Agency and Viet Nam Television will continue to help Laos manage and modernise its mass media, the Deputy Prime Minister pledged.

The Lao minister said the Vietnamese Culture Week in Laos next month would be an ideal opportunity for the two countries to enhance their friendship and solidarity.

He highlighted the need for Viet Nam and Laos to plan activities for the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year in 2012.

New York — Viet Nam persists in supporting efforts against the proliferation of nuclear weapons and any weapons for mass destruction, according to the country's Ambassador Le Hoai Trung.

The Head of the Delegation of Permanent Representatives of Viet Nam to the UN spoke at the July 27-28 UN General Assembly plenary meeting on revitalising the Conference on Disarmament (CD) in New York.

As an active member of the UN, Viet Nam has contributed to international treaties on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, the ambassador said.

Viet Nam is cooperating closely with other ASEAN countries and partners in implementing the Treaty on a Nuclear Weapon Free Zone in order to maintain regional peace and security.

HA NOI — Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan yesterday presented the Vietnamese State's Friendship Order to the German Ambassador to Viet Nam, Rolf Schulze, in recognition of his important contributions in promoting bilateral ties.

Schulze expressed his joy at receiving the award, saying he would continue working to bolster the growing relationship between Viet Nam and Germany. — VNS
