Nearly US$400 million for Mekong Delta urban upgrades

The aim of the project is to improve the infrastructure in six Mekong Delta cities including first-class city Can Tho, second-class city My Tho in Tien Giang province and four third-class cities: Cao Lanh in Dong Thap province, Tra Vinh in Tra Vinh province, Rach Gia in Kien Giang province and Ca Mau in Ca Mau province.

The project has a total investment of US$399 million, of which US$293 million is being sourced from ODA capital and US$106 million is corresponding capital from the Vietnamese Government.

Under the project, living conditions and environmental sanitation services for local residents in the selected cities will be improved to facilitate sustainable development in the Mekong Delta region.

Once completed in 2017, about 300,000 people wil directly benefit from the project and more than 1.5 million others in the region will receive indirect benefits.
