Nhan Dan – The 16th National Wrestling Championships started on March 26 in the central province of Nghe An with the participation of over 100 wrestlers from 12 teams across the country.
The wrestlers are competing in the men’s combat freestyle event in five weight categories: 48kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg and over 85kg.
The tournament, held by the Nghe An Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, aims to review the training quality as well as the development of wrestling nationwide, and help Vietnamese athletes hone their skills and gain experience in competitions.
It also provides an opportunity to select outstanding wrestlers for the Vietnam team to prepare for upcoming regional and world competitions.
The six-day event is among various activities throughout the country to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1981-2012) and 66th anniversary of the Vietnam Sports Day (March 27, 1946-2012).
