Nhan Dan Online/VFF - Coach of the Vietnam national football team, Henrique Calisto has suddenly resigned even though his contract with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) runs until 2013.
This was announced at a press briefing held in Hanoi yesterday.
The Portuguese coach said that 11 years working in Vietnamese football was long enough for him to want to make a change. He also denied rumours about pressure being the main reason leading to his decision to resign.
VFF Secretary General Tran Quoc Tuan said the VFF respected coach Calisto's decision and recognised his contribution to Vietnamese football during the past ten years. He also hoped the VFF will soon find another coach who has the enthusiasm for and great knowledge of Vietnamese football like Calisto.
Herique Calisto began his work as coach of the national football team in 2002 and helped the team to win the championship at the AFF Cup in 2008.
Last year he signed a further contract with VFF at a record salary of US$24,000 per month.
