Nhan Dan Online/VFF – The 2012 National Women's Football Championships officially kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City on April 10.

Defending champions Hanoi I got off to a good start by beating hosts Ho Chi Minh City 1-0 in their first round opener, with a solitary goal by Nguyen Thi Hoa in the second minute.

Hanoi II also secured their first three points after edging out Vinacomin 2-1 in their opening match the same day.

The final round one game of the first leg will take place today, with Phong Phu Ha Nam battling against Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel.

This year’s competition has brought together six strong female football teams from across the country including Hanoi I, Hanoi II, Phong Phu Ha Nam, Vinacomin, Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel, and Ho Chi Minh City.

The teams are competing in a double round robin tournament, both at home and away, to decide the final champions and recipients of a cash prize of VND200 million (US$9,600). The tournament runners-up and third placed team will pocket VND150 million (US$7,200) and VND100 million (US$4,800), respectively.
