Nhan Dan Online/VFF – The final round of the National U-19 Football Championships – Kova Paint Cup 2012 officially kicked off at Chi Lang stadium in the central city of Da Nang yesterday.
The finals bring together the top eight teams from the qualifying rounds that concluded on April 3, namely Song Lam Nghe An, Hanoi, SHB Da Nang, Dong Nai, TDCS Dong Thap, Navibank Saigon, Thai Nguyen and TDC Binh Duong.
The teams are competing in a home and away two-leg pair format to decide the top four teams that will play in the semi-finals.
The winners of the 2012 Kova Paint Cup will pocket a cash prize of VND60 million (US$2,880), while the second and third place teams will receive VND40 million (US$1,920) and VND25 million (US$1,200), respectively.
On the first day of the final round, SHB Da Nang trounced TDC Binh Duong 4-1 while Hanoi beat Navibank Saigon by a single goal on their home fields.
Hanoi T&T were crowned champions at last year’s tournament after beating Song Lam Nghe An 7-6 in a tense penalty shootout.
