The eight teams are divided into groups A and B and will compete in a round robin tournament to select the best two teams from each group to go through to the semi-finals.
The champion team will take home the trophy, gold medals and VND100 million (US$4,800) in cash, while the runners-up will receive silver medals and VND60 million (US$2,880). The two semi-final losers will share third prize, including bronze medals and VND40 million (US$1,920) each.
Hosts Thua Thien-Hue came from behind to beat Song Lam Nghe An 2-1 in their Group A opener yesterday while Viettel drew 1-1 with TDCS Dong Thap in another Group A match the same day.
