Nhan Dan Online – The 2012 National Junior Petanque Championships officially kicked off in the central province of Nghe An on July 12.
This year’s event features more than 150 athletes on 11 teams from across the country, who are competing in 10-16 and 17-20 age groups for medals in the men’s and women’s singles, doubles and triples categories.
The tournament aims to promote the sport of petanque among young people nationwide. It also provides a good opportunity for localities to select outstanding athletes to prepare for the upcoming eighth National Phu Dong Sport Festival in Can Tho city from July 26 to August 12.
The championships, held jointly by the Vietnam General Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Nghe An Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will last until July 19.
