National Assembly begins election sessions

The 1st session of the 13th National Assembly (NA) was opened in Hanoi this morning (July 21) to nominate its leaders for the next four years.

The 11-day session will include the Election Council’s report on the results for the elections of deputies to the 13th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the tenure. As well as the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s report on voters’ opinions of the last 13th NA election.

The NA will finish the selection process for Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the NA, and members of the NA Standing Committee by July 23.

The election of the President and Vice President, as well as the Prime Minister on will be decided on July 25 and 26.

Between July 28 and August 3, the session will continue with the nomination of new General Auditor, Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers and other Government officials.

On the first day (July 21), the NA will do a final appraisal of the qualifications of 500 selected NA deputies, then pass a resolution to re-confirm those qualifications this afternoon.

The day's schedule also includes NA deputies considering reports on socio-economics and the state budget for the first half of this year.

The NA will then concern itself with plans on the development of these issues for the next six months of 2011. One important goal of the session will be to adopt a strategy for tax law, which would alleviate difficulties for both businesses and individuals.
