The defeat means they are the first V-League team to drop down a division, despite the fact there are still four games to go between now and August 22.
The defeat brings to an end their 12-year stint in the top-flight football championship.
The northern team started the year full of optimism after winning a major sponsorship deal with the Megastar Group worth US$1.05 million.
However, the team have only managed to win three matches, while they have draw three and lost 16.
After 22 matches, the northern city team have pocked just 12 points, and languish at the bottom of the table.
To add insult to injury, Megastar decided on Saturday to pull their sponsorship.
The team, who have finished in the top three from 2000-04, have been in serious financial difficulties over the last three years, which resulted in many of their best players deserting the club.
Last year, Nam Dinh faced major debts, and were unable to pay their coaches and players.
Nguyen Hung Thai, the club's chairman, said that despite everything, he was still proud of the team.
"Relegation or promotion is normal in football. Of course, nobody is happy when their team drops down a division," Thai said.
"We lost eight key players at the beginning of the season. Still we were left with good players but we were unlucky to lose some matches.
"However, I am proud that my players tried their best in what was a very difficult situation. It was their love for the sport and for their hometown that drove them on," he said.
