NTT Com, VNNIC to offer transit service in VN

Japan's NTT Communications Corp (NTT Com) and the Viet Nam Internet Network Information Centre (VNNIC) will co-operate in providing internet service providers (ISPs) and internet content providers (ICPs) in Viet Nam with global access via NTT Com's Tier-1 network, beginning no later than the end of June.


According to an agreement between the two sides announced on Thursday, NTT Com will work with local partners to provide direct connections to NTT Com's Tier-1 network via the VNNIC-prepared infrastructure. This will give ISPs and ICSs a new option for providing customers with enhanced, low-latency internet environments and robust connections to content and services worldwide. NTT Com's Tier-1 IP backbone network offers direct connections to ISPs in more than 150 countries.

HA NOI — The fourth Viet Nam International Telecommunications Conference 2011 will open in Ha Noi on June 1-2, aiming to develop broadband connection in Viet Nam.

Organised by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the event will draw almost 200 delegates from foreign and domestic IT and telecom businesses, especially the participation of two speakers from the International Telecommunications Union.The event is expected to strengthen understanding among foreign investors about investment opportunities in the telecom market in Viet Nam as well as create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to exchange experiences, contributing to developing the country's telecommunications industry.

HCM City — From May 1, VinaPhone will provide two new packages that make international calls cheaper than local calls.

The service, IDD1714, will be available for both prepaid and post-paid subscribers. Calls to 23 nations will be discounted by 82 per cent, bringing the rate down to just VND750 ($0.3 cents) a minute, compared to the VND1,000 charged for domestic calls.

HCM City — The global cloud security firm, Trend Micro, has launched a new "Worry Free Business Security 7" software that enhances security by incorporating new features that address the ways small businesses face an increasingly dynamic and targeted threat landscape: malware and cybercriminals.

The new software provides email data loss prevention, integrated Mac client protection, device control and ways to stop threats before they reach businesses, according to a company release.

HA NOI — Vietnamobile was honoured with the "Provider of the best mobile subscriber's package" award for its Maxi Talk package by the Ministry of Information and Communications. The award goes to an IT-Telecom company with outstanding performance.

For the first time in the mobile telecommunication area, a young network operator has made some of the most spectacular headways and achieved one of the three most prestigious prizes. VICTA awards were presented to State-owned IT organisations, agencies and businesses and foreign businesses who have greatly contributed to the development of the ICT industry and community.

HA NOI — Mobifone has officially launched its international roaming service for calls and SMS text messages for prepaid subscribers. Prepaid subscribers can roam in nearly 300 mobile networks in 98 countries and territories. When using international roaming services, subscribers can keep their mobile phone numbers.

HA NOI — Representatives of the Ministry of Information and Communications announced that it expected to issue four national standards on the information safety in the second quarter.

The four standards concern management systems, techniques, risk management, and framework testing and system certification requirements. In addition, the ministry will also issue documents recommending measures to manage essential information for the information systems of State-run agencies.

DA NANG — Da Nang has begun building an urban network with a total cost of US$30 million to connect local people, enterprises and city authorities.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the project on Wednesday, Pham Kim Son, director of Da Nang Department of Information and Communications, said the project would improve communication infrastructure facilities and connect districts, departments and communes by a broadband cable network. — VNS
