National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan took a tour of the northern province of Hai Duong yesterday to examine compliance with environmental laws and policies in industrial parks and villages.

HA NOI —

On hearing a report from local authorities that environmental pollution in traditional trade villages was posing a serious risk to public health, she said that there was no funding available for environmental protection at this time.

She emphasised that the province should propagate environmental laws and policies to specific groups including trade villages and industrial parks as well as strengthen its inspection activities in the coming time.

Local leaders should finish their plans for traditional trade villages soon and implement waste treatment pilot projects in several trade villages, she said.

According to the Hai Duong People's Committee report, none of the 61 traditional trade villages in Hai Duong are equipped with proper waste water treatment systems. — VNS
