Nhan Dan - National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong urged the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) to introduce more appropriate measures to improve the quality of social welfare programmes.
NA Vice Chairwoman Phong made the statement at briefing held by the NA Committee for Social Affairs to hear reports on the implementation of social welfare policies.
MOLISA Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen said that the Vietnamese people enjoy substantial benefits under social programmes, from health care and education to unemployment insurance.
However, these policies only cover a small proportion of those in need and the current social assistance only meets part of the minimum needs of beneficiaries.
NA Vice Chairwoman Phong asked the MOLISA to review its policies and co-ordinate with relevant agencies in order to enhance the quality of social welfare programmes.
