Exports of mobile phones and parts topped US$800 million in April, taking exports for the first four months to $3.49 billion, a 154 per cent increase year-on-year.

Mobile phones and spare-parts are among the items with the highest growth rate of more than 40 per cent per year. Last year Korean giant Samsung accounted for more than 70 per cent of mobile-phone exports.

Recently Nokia began construction of a plant in Bac Ninh Province at a cost of 200 million euros (US$264 million).

HCM City needs 24,000 workers in May

HCM City Centre for Forecasting Manpower Needs and Labour Market Information said in May businesses would need around 24,000 workers in sectors such as marketing, information technology, accounting, auditing, electronics-communications, textile and garment, and footwear.

They would need skilled workers, including university graduates (12 per cent), college and vocational graduates (35 per cent), and high school graduates (48 per cent).

Customs set to accept digital signatures

The HCM City Department of Customs has said it will accept digital signatures for electronic customs procedures from the third quarter onwards.

Digital signatures were used on a trial basis in the first quarter.

The department will soon provide training to businesses planning to use digital signatures.
