Many MobiFone subscribers have complained to Tuoi Tre that the telecom operator has taken them for a ride by offering them freebies under a promotion but never did.

The state-owned firm sent subscribers an SMS message saying “from June 16 to 18, MobiFone offers 100 percent bonus for recharging cards along with 10-500 free SMS messages that can be sent until July 31.”
Thanh Hung, a subscriber, said he topped up with a VND500,000 (US$24.1) recharge card on June 16 but received no bonus.
When he called MobiFone, the firm said the promotion applied only to subscribers whose main accounts had less than VND5,000.
“I was surprised at the reply since such a condition was not mentioned in their offer,” he said.
“It cheated its subscribers.”
Another subscriber, Phuong Thao, went to a MobiFone office to complain.
“I requested them to give me the promotional value they indicated in their SMS message,” she told Tuoi Tre.
A MobiFone employee told her, “You can sue if you want.”
Tuoi Tre has forwarded readers’ complaints to MobiFone but is yet to get a reply.
