The Ministry of Information and Communications is ready to implement the Government’s restructuring plans for State-owned enterprises, including VNPT, says Minister Nguyen Bac Son.
The minister made the statement during an online consultation with citizens via the government’s web-portal in Hanoi on June 12, in respond to a question regarding policy on the merger of mobile phone giants MobiFone and Vinaphone and the restructuring plan for IT and telecoms companies.
Son said the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications (VNPT) is a strong telecoms group, and MobilFone and Vinaphone are also national brand names. However, the restructuring of groups and corporations is essential if they are to further improve their operational effectiveness.
According to him, the restructuring needs to be carried out carefully in a responsible manner and with due process.
Following Directive 3, the Prime Minister instructed the relevant ministries and State agencies to draw up detailed legal documents and revise relevant regulations to create a legal basis for restructuring groups and corporations.
Minister Son said he believed that after restructuring, VNPT, including Vinphone and MobiFone, will have a better chance to develop and the consumer will benefit from the improved services that VNPT and other telecoms firms will be able to offer.-VNA
