Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg, founder of prestigious Bloomberg newswire service arrived in Hanoi on March 23.

This is Bloomberg’s first visit to Vietnam and the billionaire will meet with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and talk to Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh.

On the first day of this tour, Bloomberg called in at Nam Trung Yen Primary School in Hanoi where he presented free bicycle helmets to students. The donation is part of the World Health Organisation’s programme to heighten traffic safety awareness among young people.

The New York Times said Bloomberg was accompanied by small entourage including the mayor’s top deputy and long-time confidante Patricia Harris.

Bloomberg currently holds an 88% stake in his newswire service. He is the 12th-richest person in the US with assets worth around USD20 billion, according to Forbes.
