Vietnamese who enjoy star gazing will be keen to observe the Lyrids meteor shower early on April 23.

However, it will be hard to see the meteor shower in the country due to thick cloud and smog, said Nguyen Duc Phuong, Secretary General of the Vietnam Astronomy and Cosmography Association.

The Lyrids, which is a medium-sized meteor shower, began on April 16 and will end on April 26, with the maximum frequency of meteors occurring during the nights of April 21 and 22. At this time, meteor activity can reach about 20 meteors per hour, Phuong said.

Phuong added some astronomy clubs in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will gather to observe this event if the weather is fine. The best place to observe such showers is somewhere dark, away from light pollution, and with the moon out of the field of vision.-VNA
