Contestants of top 30 who will enter the final round of the Mrs Vietnam Pageant 2009 pose for a photo at the semi-final round in Hoa Binh Theatre in HCMC's District 10 - Photo: Mai Nghi Hoa Binh Theater on the night of September 1 pulsed and glowed with the appearance of 60 Delta beauty queens aged 21 to 48 who came from all over the south to exhibit their talents and charms at the semi-final round of the 2009 Mrs. Vietnam Pageant.
After going through the talent and Q&A sections of the pageant, the ladies demonstrated the inherent grace of the human female as she walks and the variety of shapes that are possible with each movement of her body in carefully cut Vietnamese long dresses, evening gowns and swim-suits.
The pageant which is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Information & Communications, the Performing Art Department, the Central Vietnam Women’s Union, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, the Vietnam Advertising Association and CIAT Company, targets to honor not only the beauty of married women, but also their spirit, talent and contributions to society. This is also a chance to glorify the image of Vietnamese women to the world.
Contrary to other beauty contests, where the girls might not like each other so much, the Mrs. Vietnam Pageant creates a friendly, joyful atmosphere. Married women who work and take care of children still manage to sparkle and shine on stage by their confidence and charm. Some of them may have faltered on a step or expressed slight palpitation, but audiences adore them. Especially beautiful were the images of children watching excitedly as their mothers worked their magic on stage and then falling into worship as they concluded their evening and returned to them. Anytime the MC introduced a contestant with a long term marriage, the room erupted into applause.
It is a silly mistake to think the younger contestants have the advantage over older ones in the swim-suit performance. Although hardly a surprise to most of us, it turns out that the middle-aged contestants have strong, hot bodies with three pretty perfect measurements.
The semi-final round added 30 beautiful southern flowers to the 30 beautiful northern flowers to make a garden of 60 who will all go to the final round of Mrs. Vietnam Pageant 2009 at the sea-side city of Vung Tau on September 26. The top two from the final round will compete in the Mrs. World Pageant which will be held for the first time in Vietnam in November.
