Six separate food-poisoning incidents affected 166 people in Dong Nai, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai and Tuyen Quang provinces last month, according to the Ministry of Health's Food Safety and Hygiene Department.

The department said contaminated food was the cause. An additional 16 food-poisoning incidents occurred in the country in the first three months of the year, affecting 360 people, 254 of whom were hospitalised and three died.

The People's Committee of central Quang Tri Province on Monday presented VND530 million (US$25,480) as family-planning awards to 20 villages. Big C supermarkets are offering a discount of 5-40 per cent on 1,000 items until April 15. Prices of hundreds of items of Vinatex Mart's chain of 57 supermarkets have been reduced by 20-50 per cent this month.

According to supermarkets' managers, April is the month that has the lowest purchasing power each year.

Dong Nai creates over 22,000 new jobs

Southern Dong Nai Province has created 22,662 jobs since the beginning of this year, achieving 25.18 per cent of its yearly plan. In the last three months, the province organised three job fairs, attracting more than 120 businesses. More than 3,850 people have visited the fairs. At least 3,342 people were interviewed and 1,391 were hired.
