Many leather-shoe products debut in local market

HCMC – A number of export-oriented leather-footwear companies on Thursday launched their products into the local market for the first time on the opening day of the 14th International Shoes & Leather Exhibition Vietnam.
Tuan Viet Shoes Co. Ltd., which mainly ships products to Europe and the U.S., sets up a pavilion at the exhibition to introduce the products that will be sold in the domestic market soon.
Tran Van Tac, chairman of Tuan Viet, said his company this year would distribute its products to the local market for the first time via its own distribution network.
Meanwhile, the Leather and Shoes Research Institute under the Ministry of Industry and Trade launches a special kind of shoes for diabetes patients at the event. This type of product is the result of a research the project funded by the Innovation Partnership Program (IPP) between Vietnam and Finland.
Newly-established Leather Art Co. brings to the exhibition its handicraft products made of leather to explore the response of domestic consumers.
This year’s exhibition seems to be more bustling as many foreign partners come to study and place orders at the pavilions of Vietnamese firms. Notably, an Indian business comes to survey prices at several pavilions to make orders scheduled for delivery prior to September 2012.
Several foreign traders said they would visit the factories of some Vietnamese enterprises.
The International Shoes & Leather Exhibition Vietnam 2012 is co-organized by the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso) and Hong Kong’s Top Repute Co. Ltd. from July 19 to 21 at the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Center in HCMC’s District 7.
This year’s exhibition attracts the participation of around 150 manufacturers and suppliers from 16 nations and territories like Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Germany, Spain, India, South Korea, Pakistan, Japan, Thailand and the U.S. The event first took place in 1999.
