The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has launched a program calling on Vietnamese aqua-product manufacturers to provide financial assistance to Vietnamese fishermen operating in the country’s East Sea, who are facing unsecured conditions in the Vietnamese waters.
VASEP general secretary Truong Dinh Hoe announced the launch during a press conference on the 2011 Vietnam Fisheries International Exhibition (Vietfish 2011), held in Ho Chi Minh City Thursday.

He said VASEP expects the Vietfish show, set for June 28-30 in the city, to be a major fundraising event for the program. VASEP staff will set tables over there to collect donations.
The association plans to wrap up the first stage of the assistance program on July 31, then immediately transfer the proceeds to affected fishermen nationwide, added Mr. Hoe.
Vietfish 2011 will feature more than 300 booths of over 190 companies from Vietnam and other countries such as Thailand, Norway, Germany, Japan, the US, Chile, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
