Around 1,500 young people and students from the north-eastern province of Quang Ninh's Uong Bi City helped to plant 10ha of mangrove forest on Sunday.

The project was organised in response to the global Clean-up-the-World campaign under the theme "Our place-our planet-our responsibility."

The campaign, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme, was first launched in 1993 in Australia.

Province deals with bridge collapse

AN GIANG — Authorities in the south-western province of An Giang are dealing with the consequences of a bridge collapse by mobilising a ferry to carry passengers across the river.

According to Do Thi Thuy Trang, head of the Traffic Management Office under the provincial Department of Transport, the department would install a temporary iron bridge after the investigation into the accident was completed.

The collapse of Bridge No 5 on local road 941 running from Long Xuyen City to An Giang Province on Saturday claimed the life of one man and injured two others.

Vehicles weighing a maximum of 13 tonnes were allowed to use the bridge, but the driver of a 15.5 tonne truck ignored the sign and crossed shortly before the accident. — VNS
