The decision was made based on Chung’s significant experience in leading national-level teams, as well as his outstanding previous achievements.
He led Vietnam’s national women’s football squad to win three consecutive SEA Games gold medals in 2001, 2003 and 2005. Most recently, he coached the national U-19 men’s football team, which finished third at the 2012 Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy in Brunei.
Earlier, Chung had been nominated to coach the national U-22 men’s football team to prepare for the Asian Under-22 Football Championships 2013 qualifiers that will take place in Myanmar from June 23 to July 3.
The appointment will be officially announced when Chung returns to Vietnam from a training course in Slovakia later this month.
