Luxemburg master pianist to perform in Hanoi

Nhan Dan – Master pianist Francesco Tristano from Luxembourg will return to Hanoi for the second time to join a concert at the Hanoi Opera House on June 25.

The concert is being organised jointly by the Luxemburg embassy in Hanoi and the Arts Performance Organisation Centre under the Department of Performing Arts to celebrate the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg’s National Day (June 23).

Pianist Tristano will entertain the audience with classical works by Domenico Scarlatti, Igor Stravinsky, Girolamo Frescobaldi and Derrick May perfomed in fresh baroque and jazz styles.

The 31-year-old pianist discovered the piano at the age of five, and started playing his own compositions at 13. He studied at the Juilliard School, part of the Lincoln Centre for the Performing Arts in New York, and completed a master class under the direction of Rosalyn Tureck, a famous American musician who specialised in the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.

He won the first prize at the International piano competition for contemporary music in Orleáns, France in 2004 and has accompanied many famous orchestras including the Russian and French National Orchestras and the Luxembourg Philharmonic.

Tristano performed in Hanoi in June of last year and left an indelible impression on the Vietnamese audience.
